Fertility Is a Whole-Body Issue
Fertility is not just about your reproductive hormones or your ovaries. It is about your entire body getting into a state of readiness to create life.
Our bodies are incredibly smart. When pregnancy isn’t happening, it’s not because you are broken. It’s your body asking for attention, asking for help. And what we find, time and again, is that when we address the root causes — when we get your body healthier — pregnancy starts to happen naturally, even for women who have been told it never would.
In this episode, I sit down with my friend and colleague Dr. Nashat Latib, who is the CEO and founder of Reimagined Health and Fertility. Dr. Latib has an 80% success rate helping women get pregnant and stay pregnant naturally, and I am so excited for you to hear what she has to say — because this conversation is full of things that I wish more women knew.
Dr. Nashat came to this work through her own painful journey. As a board-certified ER doctor who spent years saving lives in emergency medicine, she found herself unable to get pregnant despite having regular periods, exercising, and eating well. She was told her labs were normal, that she had unexplained infertility, and to just relax. She went through IUI and multiple rounds of IVF. It was grueling, expensive, and, as she now understands, largely unnecessary. That realization is what drives her work today.
What the Traditional Approach Is Missing About Getting Pregnant
This is where it gets really important, because there are so many root causes of infertility that the conventional fertility paradigm simply does not look for. The first thing we want you to understand is that there is never just one reason. It is always multiple factors, and they are highly individual.
The male factor is one of the most overlooked pieces. Fifty percent of couples struggling with infertility have a male factor component, and sperm quality is declining dramatically — projected to reach zero by 2045. Yet in so many fertility workups, sperm health is barely addressed. This is why Dr. Nashat works with both partners, not just the woman.
Standard lab reference ranges are another major problem. Those ranges were established based on data for middle-aged men, which makes them essentially irrelevant for women in their reproductive years. Thyroid function is a perfect example. A TSH of up to 3.5 or 4 might be flagged as “normal,” but for fertility, we want to see it between 1.5 and 2. That difference matters enormously, and it gets missed constantly.
Beyond thyroid, we are looking at inflammation, insulin resistance, metabolic dysfunction, cycle irregularities like luteal phase defects, exposure to hormone-disrupting toxins, gut imbalances, and leaky gut — all of which are correlated with infertility in the research, and none of which show up on a standard CBC or hormone panel.
Basal body temperature tracking is another tool that gives us a tremendous amount of information that blood work simply cannot.
The Truth About AMH
I know so many women get derailed by their AMH results. AMH, or Anti-Müllerian Hormone, is used to estimate how many eggs you have left. A low number can feel like a door slamming shut. But here is what the conventional paradigm gets wrong: AMH is not fixed. It can change. Dr. Nashat has seen it quintuple. She has worked with women who had an AMH of 0.1 — women who were told donor eggs were their only option — who went on to conceive naturally. AMH is a signal that your body needs support. It is not a sentence.
What this comes down to is egg quality and the 90-to-120-day window before ovulation during which an egg is developing. What we do in that window matters enormously — not just for whether conception happens, but for the long-term health of the baby. This is the science of epigenetics, and it is barely touched on in the conventional fertility world.
The good news is that the work required during this preconception period is not extreme or complicated. It is about eating in a way that supports your individual biochemistry, reducing toxin exposure, improving sleep so cellular repair can happen, and bringing insulin and metabolic function into balance.
The Power of Community and Belief
Something that really resonated with me in this conversation is how Dr. Nashat structures her program as a group experience rather than one-on-one. And it turns out her group participants have higher success rates. When you think about it, that makes sense. We are wired for community. When one woman in the group gets a positive pregnancy test, it changes the energy for everyone. Belief becomes contagious, and belief is genuinely physiological.
When you move into a state of hope and possibility, your parasympathetic nervous system activates. Cortisol drops, inflammation decreases, insulin regulation improves, and your body starts producing hormones more efficiently. That cascade of effects is real, and it matters.
Dr. Nashat also makes the point that the fertility journey can be deeply isolating. Women feel they cannot talk about it, and they often receive discouraging messages from practitioners that erode their confidence further. Part of healing is reclaiming belief that your body can respond — and in a group, you get to witness that happening for others, which makes it feel possible for yourself.
This Is Not About Rejecting Conventional Medicine
I want to be clear, and so does Dr. Nashat: This is not about being anti-IVF or anti-IUI. If you are going that route, doing the foundational work first can significantly improve your outcomes and reduce the number of cycles you need. The goal is always to go in with your body as prepared and optimized as possible.
What we are talking about is adding the layer of comprehensive, root-cause care that the conventional system is not trained to provide — the nutrition, the gut health, the metabolic support, the mindset, and the testing that actually reflects your biology.
The bottom line is this: If you have been struggling with fertility, there is very likely something that has not yet been looked at. And when we find it and address it, bodies respond. I see it in my practice, and Dr. Nashat sees it in hers every single day.
You Are Not at the End of the Road
If you are reading this and you are in the middle of a fertility journey, I want you to hear this directly: There is hope, and it is grounded in real science, not wishful thinking. I have seen women in my own practice who were told they would never conceive go on to have healthy babies once we identified and addressed what their body actually needed.
These are not miracles. They are what happens when the body finally gets what it has been asking for. The conventional system is not designed to find these things, which means that if you have been through that system and walked away with no answers, it does not mean there are no answers. It means they have not been found yet.
The very first step does not require a lab test or a supplement or a protocol. It simply requires you to open the door to the possibility that your body can respond — because it very likely can.
