There is a different way of looking at healthcare, a different way of looking at the human body, and a different way of looking at how healing can happen. These can all be applied to women’s health in particular.
I would like for you to understand my approach to healthcare – specifically women’s health and how to deal with HPV. The way I approach healthcare and women’s health is different than what you may have experienced in other practitioners’ offices or medical offices.
If you’ve had frustrations with conventional medicine – or simply feel stuck or unsatisfied with your current treatment plan and/or healthcare outcomes – I want you to feel empowered that there *is* something you can do.
My Professional Background
I’m a naturopathic doctor with a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University. I graduated from the Seattle campus in the year 2000. A doctorate in naturopathic medicine requires an in-residence, in-person program—it’s not an online program. For me, it was five years because I also trained and became certified as a professional midwife, which was a separate degree program that I completed at the same time.
Over those five years, I completed both the doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine and the certificate in midwifery. Then I went on to complete a residency in family medicine in a naturopathic clinic.
This all came after completing two bachelor’s degrees—one in general science and one in nutrition, so I’m also a clinical nutritionist. This gives you a little bit of my professional training and education background.
As a naturopathic doctor in the United States, I’m required to pass board exams and complete continuing education credits to maintain my licenses. Naturopathic doctors are licensed state by state, and I’m currently licensed in four states.
I maintain all of this because I want to be able to offer my patients as much of my scope of practice (and approach to healthcare and women’s health) as I can and help as many people as possible. I’ve been in practice since 2001 when I finished my residency.
I specialize in women’s health, and I also help infants, children, teenagers, men, and even patients over 100 years old!
The Philosophy of Naturopathic Medicine
The main difference between naturopathic medicine and standard, conventional, or what is referred to as allopathic, medicine lies in the philosophy. Naturopathic medicine comes from a place of believing that the body can heal itself, and that we, as practitioners and patients, are here to support the body in its innate healing process. It’s a different approach to healthcare.
We look at the body as an integrated whole instead of just looking at a single system or part. I look at how your nervous system works with your gut, how your gut works with your hormones and immune system, and how all of that influences different physical areas of your body, including the vaginal area for women.
We also consider how the mind and body are connected, and how we need to address the mind, body, and spirit—we have a spiritual aspect to our being that needs to be addressed as part of our healing.
For example, in women’s health, when I look at something like HPV, which is a virus, and there are thirteen types of HPV that are considered high risk because they are associated with cancer risk, I think about how our human body can protect us from HPV.
Our human body and immune system has the ability to protect us from infections—bacterial infections, fungal infections, as well as viral infections. So we need to look at how our body’s natural ability to protect us from HPV might not be coming through for you, how it’s not being optimized, or how it is being blocked.
When we can look at those causes for the inability to protect from HPV and we address them one by one—there may be more than one—as we address those causes for your immune system not protecting you, we then build your immune system back up and it’s now able to protect you from HPV now and into the future.
Many people ask me, “Well, what about the next time I’m exposed to HPV?” or “Why does it come back for some people?” I would say it’s because if any of your systems are imbalanced, if your immune system is depleted because of stress, and/or you are run down in general, you become more susceptible to HPV again.
My Approach to Healthcare and Stress
In the 90s, something called functional medicine was developed by Jeffrey Bland. Maybe you’ve heard the terms “alternative medicine” or “functional medicine.”
It was developed as a way to help train practitioners who weren’t becoming naturopathic doctors—let’s say medical doctors, nurses, or other types of practitioners, even nutritionists—in this same way of thinking about how we can support our bodies to heal using the least invasive therapies possible.
When I look at any health condition, I’m thinking about what’s really going on here. I’m always looking for the underlying cause, or what you might hear called the “root cause.” If we address the cause, we can solve the issue. It’s similar to when something’s not working in your house—you call someone to help figure out what’s causing the problem, and then they fix it.
When we think about how stress affects us, it’s well established that the stress we’re exposed to as humans depletes our immune system. Not only that, but stress also causes nutrient deficiencies, causes negative effects to our digestive tract, affects how well we absorb nutrients, and can cause inflammatory responses to our foods.
We end up with disrupted bacteria or microbiome in our gut, and that translates to a disrupted microbiome in the vagina as well.
We can’t just say, “Well, I’m going to turn off the stress” because that’s impossible. As humans, we’re going to have stress. We can reduce stress as we’re supposed to, but we’re still going to have some stresses come up no matter what.
So we need to figure out how to help our bodies maintain optimal functioning even though we’re going to be exposed to some stress and change. How can we still maintain optimal digestion, immune function, hormone levels, and nervous system responses so that we can be most optimal even in our stressful day, even in our stressful life?
From this understanding, I developed my Stress Recovery Protocol and wrote several books.
My most recent book is called “Master Your Stress Reset Your Health,” where I describe in detail how stress affects us individually. It’s not one-size-fits-all. For some people, cortisol goes too high, for others too low. The same with adrenaline.
We need to understand how stress is affecting your system, your hormones, your nutrients, your nervous system, your hormones, your gut, and your microbiome.
The H.E.A.L. Steps to Healing
- H – History: We gather all information about your past and order labs for what information is missing. This maybe blood work, or may involve specialty testing to get information about what is happening in your body that needs attention.
- E – Evaluate: We analyze test results to understand your susceptibilities and imbalances. We look at nutrient levels, hormone levels, microbiome imbalances, as well as neurotransmitters and the degree of leaky gut and food sensitivities.
- A – Address imbalances: We support healing by addressing the imbalances we discovered using diet changes, lifestyle modifications, nutrients, herbs, hormones and other natural approaches.
- L – Lasting change: We support resilience to help you maintain optimal levels into the future.
H – History
In the History phase, it’s important to know that the standard labs, yes, we use the standard blood work for what information it can provide, but we can’t get everything from blood work. It’s not all reflected in the blood that’s floating through your body. Sometimes we need information from urine, saliva, or stool testing, and the testing that you’re used to getting at the standard lab, LabCorp or Quest, is only the labs that those particular companies offer.
There are hundreds of specialty labs around the country and around the world that offer labs specific to certain areas of the body or information. I can go to a lab that specializes in food sensitivities and choose the lab that gives the best results for clinical cases and the best outcomes. We can go to a specific lab that measures cortisol and adrenaline and neurotransmitters. We can go to a specific lab that measures the gut microbiome or the vaginal microbiome.
This is something I’ve been learning about and researching since the 90s, so I know what’s available and I’m constantly learning about the latest, greatest offerings so we can get the information we need to help you heal.
E – Evaluate
In this phase we analyze your test results so we can determine the best course of action for your specific case and body. We analyze all results to understand your unique susceptibilities and imbalances.
For example, instead of guessing which foods are a problem or whether your cortisol is too high or too low, we look at your specific results and that gives us all the information on what exactly is going on, what is making you sick.
The question often becomes, “What do I do first?” A lot of practitioners don’t know what to do first. I’ve spent now 25 years understanding what makes sense to do first, then second, what you can do in a certain order that produces the best outcome.
A – Address Imbalances
Using my Stress Recovery Protocol, we start with the first phase which is to get you out of stress mode. Whenyou’re in a state of stress, your body’s not going to get the healing messages. It’s going to be in a state of stress—it’s like feeling like the tiger is chasing you constantly, and the body’s never in a state where it can actually relax and heal.
In the second phase, you’re now in the healing mode where we’re rebalancing what’s out of balance. This is where all the balancing happens. Whatever it needs to be for you—if we need to rebalance your microbiome, rebalance thyroid, rebalance your estrogen, progesterone, rebalance your nutrients—we rebalance everything that we found was out of balance.
Some people ask, “Why can’t I feel a difference tomorrow?” Well, it’s not going to happen overnight. If you have a system that has multiple areas that are out of balance, it’s going to take some time and consistency on your side in implementing these changes consistently so that your system has a new experience.
Your body can go, “Oh, no longer are we constantly in a state of stress. We actually have times where we’re in an anti-stress state, and we can heal, and we can sleep, and we can eat, and we can enjoy.” We start to actually support the healing process that your body already has innately in it—it’s just a matter of helping you to access it and support it.
L – Lasting change
A lot of people say, “Am I going to have to keep this up forever?” Well, first of all, you have a human body—it’s going to require some care for as long as you have a human body. That’s just a simple truth. It’s not like we just one day don’t have to pay attention to feeding our body or sleeping or making sure we have nutrients. That’s part of having a human existence.
The maintenance (or third) phase doesn’t require as much as it required in the recovery phases because we had a lot of balancing to do. Whether it was getting your immune system to get HPV out of there to negative, get your pap smear to negative, or in the case of maybe dealing with autoimmunity, getting the auto-antibodies down—we get to correct those imbalances and then get to maintenance where we say, “Hey, what do we need to do to maintain this new optimal state?”
I Apply This Approach to All Conditions
I help patients with everything from autoimmune conditions like colitis and rheumatoid arthritis to infertility, helping ovaries work better to conceive and prevent miscarriage. I also help women with perimenopause and regular cycles in general.
What I just described you’re not going to find other practitioners mention because it’s what I developed as a researcher-scientist myself.
Remember, this is not about saying we’re not going to access a conventional approach—yes, if we need surgery, we’re going to choose surgery; if you need a medication, we’re going to choose that medication.
However, we can look at it in this bigger picture view where it’s all about supporting your body to heal itself and believing that your body can heal.

It’s Time to Heal
The time has come for us to take charge of our own health and well-being, understanding that preventive care now leads to better outcomes in the future.
It is important to know that it is possible to recover from stress and trauma and truly heal, because you’re not likely to hear that from your standard doctor’s office. Keep in mind, they are not educated about diet, exercise, supplements, or stress recovery.
I am living proof that it is possible to heal holistically and naturally.
It’s possible to balance your hormones or to use hormone replacement safely and effectively, as well as toclear HPV and get a normal pap result, and to eliminate the effects of stress, trauma, anxiety and depression.
I help patients with to do this in my practice every day – by phone and zoom, anywhere in the world. You can set up a one-on-one appointment.
Once I meet with you one on one, we will create a strategic plan based on your health needs, including sessions with the health coach on my team to help guide you to implement my proprietary C.A.R.E. and Stress Mastery programs.
For women’s health, If you’re dealing with persistent HPV I encourage you to check out my Say Goodbye to HPV Program. You can access it from anywhere in the world because it is online videos, with handouts, recipes, resources, as well as live group sessions and a private app, where I teach you to implement my protocol to help you prevent cervical cancer and other HPV-related cancers.

You’ll also get access to order specialty testing I recommend to help us understand what your body needs in order to heal, as well as vaginal suppositories. I’d love to teach you how to heal and protect yourself from HPV.
You can also go to clearhpvnow.com. There, you’ll find lots of resources and stories from women who’ve followed my protocol and cleared HPV to negative.
