STRESS MAGNET Problem: A Stress Magnet type has elevated cortisol and/or adrenaline part of the day, or all day. Cortisol and adrenaline are our stress hormones. Reason Why This is caused by exposure to recurrent or chronic stress. The stress response system (called the HPA axis) is not turning off, as it should, and your adrenal glands are being continually signaled to make more cortisol and adrenaline at certain times of day, or all day long. Meanwhile your body may be metabolizing adrenaline more slowly, resulting in a high level. Treatment: Not to worry, though. Now that we know your HPA axis needs a reset, we can use natural substances that are known to signal a reset to the receptors that trigger the stress response. These substances are non-addictive and have no known side effects. Of course, if you are allergic to these substances, you’ll need to choose a different option. #1 Phosphatidylserine:
  • Considered a nutrient and essential to the human nervous system.
  • Amino acid derived substance that is fat soluble and is part of cell membranes, particularly in nerve cells.
  • Flips the stress response switch off by signaling to the receptors in the hypothalamus.
  • Dosage: 750 mg to 1500 mg taken at the time of day when your cortisol is too high.
See Study #2 Ashwagandha:
  • It’s an herb, often used in India, and known (in studies) to reduce cortisol levels that are too high.
  • Dosage: 250 mg to 600 mg per day taken at the time of day when your cortisol is too high.
See Study 1 See Study 2 #3 Magnesium:
  • Magnesium and the Threonate form in particular, is a mineral and essential cofactor for the metabolism of adrenaline (and many other metabolic pathways in the body), also known as norepinephrine and epinephrine.
  • Magnesium deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies that slows down the COMT enzyme metabolism, leaving higher adrenaline levels.
  • Dosage: 200 and 500 mg per day.
See Study In addition to addressing cortisol and adrenaline, consistent with the Stress Recovery Protocol, Dr. Doni has found that it is essential to also support the calming (inhibitory) neurotransmitters, GABA and Serotonin. These neurotransmitters are often depleted by stress exposure, and when we don’t have enough, it leaves us vulnerable to experiencing the effects of stress, including elevated cortisol and adrenaline. To truly recover and get ahead of stress, it is important to ensure adequate calming neurotransmitters, which can be done using a clinical nutrition protocol known as amino acid therapy. Amino acids are the metabolic building blocks of protein. We access amino acids via protein in our diet which are transformed into neurotransmitters in the human digestive tract. When the diet is low in protein, and the digestion and microbiome are disrupted (often due to stress), we don’t make adequate amounts of these neurotransmitters to keep up with our stress exposure. These are the natural substances we can take as part of the Stress Recovery Protocol: #4 5HTP (5-Hydrodroxytryptophan)
  • It’s used as a precursor to serotonin.
  • Dosage: 50 mg to 200 mg per day, taken with food to start, and often preferred to take at bedtime.
  • If you are taking an SSRI or SNRI or other psychotropic medicine, it is important to work with a clinical nutritionist who understands the use of amino acids with medications.
See Study #5 L-Theanine
  • This amino acid, and GABA itself can be used to support GABA levels.
  • Dosage: 100 mg to 600 mg of L-Theanine per day, and 200 mg to 600 mg of GABA, spread out through the day.
See Study Meanwhile, it’s important to work on healing the gut to improve the body’s ability to make GABA and serotonin going forward. Recommendations
  • Whenever beginning to take supplements - whether nutrients, herbs, or other substances - it is important to start one at a time and at a low dose so that you can observe how your body responds.
  • If you notice any new symptoms, such as a rash or headache, stop taking the new substance and talk with your naturopathic doctor or functional medicine practitioner to help guide you.
  • Once you have a sense that a substance is okay for you, you can add the next, and then the goal is to fine-tune your doses based on your individual needs.
  • Doni encourages you to use your SelfC.A.R.E. Notebook to track your 5 body signals - energy, mood, sleep, focus, and body - each day and optimize your doses.

Tired and Wired Bundle

$153.72
Rated 0 out of 5
Tired and Wired Bundle Includes:
  • Adrenal Support, 90 capsules. Dr. Doni’s Adrenal Support is a combination of standardized herbs and nutrients which are known to contribute to rejuvenating the adrenals.
  • Be Happy 5HTP Support is a synergistic formula of 5-hydroxytryptophan (50 mg) and vitamin B6 (10 mg) per serving for supporting overall neurotransmitter metabolism by providing precursors of serotonin.
  • GABA Support provides calming neurotransmitter support to promote relaxation, positive mood, and restful sleep.
  • Relax Magnesium Support features the unique, patented, chelated mineral Magtein®, which contains magnesium that is chelated to threonic acid (magnesium L-threonate).
TIRED AND WIRED Problem: A Tired and Wired type has low cortisol with high adrenaline. Cortisol and adrenaline are our stress hormones. Reason Why: This is caused by exposure to recurrent or chronic stress. The stress response system (called the HPA axis) is not recovering, as it should, and your adrenal glands are becoming less able to keep up with the demand for cortisol. Meanwhile your body may be metabolizing adrenaline more slowly, resulting in a high level. Treatment: Not to worry, though. Now that we know your body needs help to reduce adrenaline and increase cortisol, we can use natural substances that are non-addictive and have no known side effects. Of course, if you are allergic to these substances, you’ll need to choose a different option.

First things first, we need to help your body metabolize adrenaline. We can do that with magnesium.

#1 Magnesium:
  • Magnesium and the Threonate form in particular, is a mineral and essential cofactor for the metabolism of adrenaline (and many other metabolic pathways in the body), also known as norepinephrine and epinephrine.
  • Magnesium deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies that slows down the COMT enzyme metabolism, leaving higher adrenaline levels.

Next, and before taking substances to support the low cortisol, and consistent with the Stress Recovery Protocol, Dr. Doni has found that it is essential to also support the calming (inhibitory) neurotransmitters, GABA and Serotonin.

These neurotransmitters are often depleted by stress exposure, and when we don’t have enough, it leaves us vulnerable to experiencing the effects of stress.
See Study #3 L-Theanine:
  • This amino acid, and GABA itself can be used to support GABA levels.
  • Dosage: 100 mg to 600 mg of L-Theanine per day, and 200 mg to 600 mg of GABA, spread out through the day.
See Study Meanwhile, it’s important to work on healing the gut to improve the body’s ability to make GABA and serotonin going forward.

And finally, once things have calmed out of stress mode, then we can support your adrenal glands to make more cortisol. We can use natural substances that are known to support adrenal function:

#4 Herbs and Nutrients:
  • Vitamin C: 500 mg to 1,000 mg once or twice per day.
  • Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid): 500 mg to 1,000 mg once or twice per day.
  • Herbs including holy basil (often referred to as tulsi), rhodiola, herbal licorice and eleutherococcus (Siberian ginseng).
  • The above are known to increase production of cortisol and potentially adrenaline as well.
See Study

You can get these all in one supplement, which is best to take in the morning, when cortisol levels should naturally increase.

The above herbs and nutrients are known to increase production of cortisol and potentially adrenaline as well so have magnesium on hand to take in case your adrenaline increases too much again.

Recommendations
  • Whenever beginning to take supplements - whether nutrients, herbs, or other substances - it is important to start one at a time and at a low dose so that you can observe how your body responds.

1 x MitoQ 5mg, 60 capsules
MitoQ is a ground-breaking product which supports youthful energy levels and can reduce the free radical damage which contributes to many of the symptoms of aging and various health problems.  With its unique action, MitoQ supports the health of the trillions of cells in your body like nothing else can.
How can MitoQ benefit you?
MitoQ protects your cells from damaging free radicals ensuring they stay healthy and full of energy. MitoQ is absorbed throughout your body, recharging your cells from head to toe. Taken daily in combination with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, MitoQ can have the following benefits:
•          Reduces the free radical damage which can lead to the visible and internal signs of aging
•          Supports youthful levels of cellular energy which supports healthy cell growth and repair
•          Supports heart and circulatory function, including normal blood pressure
•          Supports brain health and cognitive function including focus and mental clarity
•          Supports kidney, liver and digestive system health
•          Supports normal immune system responses and function
•          Supports the health of your muscles, joints and skin
How does MitoQ work?
Inside each of our cells are huge numbers of tiny, energy-producing power plants called “mitochondria”. Mitochondria convert the food we eat and the air we breathe into the energy that powers our cells, and in turn, us. When mitochondria produce this energy, they also produce damaging by-products known as free radicals. Luckily our mitochondria and cells are packed with antioxidants which can neutralize free radicals before they can do too much damage. However, as we age, or when we are unwell, our antioxidant supply diminishes and the free radicals start to take an ever-increasing toll on our cells.
MitoQ is a true breakthrough as it is the only antioxidant which can effectively target and recharge our own cellular batteries, mitochondria. MitoQ neutralizes harmful free radicals at the source before they get the chance to get out and damage our cells. This means our cells can get on with their job of producing all the energy we need to keep us healthy and active.
To learn more about MitoQ, mitochondria and aging, visit MitoQ University.

1 x Thorne - NAC 90 capsules

N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a sulfur-containing amino acid, is the precursor of the amino acids L-cysteine and glutathione. Animal and human studies of NAC show it to have powerful antioxidant activity. In addition to antioxidant activity, NAC is effective in promoting normal liver detoxification.

As a sulfur source, NAC stimulates glutathione (an important antioxidant produced in the body) synthesis and activity, promotes liver detoxification, and is a powerful molecule capable of scavenging free radicals.

Research suggests NAC is capable of enhancing immunity. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, NAC was shown to positively impact lymphocyte cell numbers.

NAC helps maintain good pulmonary health due to its mucolytic activity. NAC's sulfur cleaves bonds in mucoproteins, causing mucus to be subsequently broken into smaller, less viscous pieces. NAC has been noted to decrease the viscoelasticity of nasal mucus and increase the clearance of mucus by the cilia by thinning of secretions, thus helping maintain good pulmonary health.

One Capsule Contains:
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine 500 mg.

Other Ingredients: Hypromellose (derived from cellulose) capsule, Leucine, Silicon Dioxide.

1 x Thorne - 5-MTHF 1mg 60 capsules
  • A breakthrough in folate supplementation
  • The most bioavailable, active form of folate
  • An excellent source of folate for pregnant women
  • Supports optimal cardiovascular and nerve function
Folic acid must be converted to its active forms to be used by the body. This is a multi-step biochemical process that occurs in the intestines and liver. In the presence of intestinal or liver dysfunction this conversion may not occur sufficiently enough to meet the body's needs. Furthermore, up to 60-percent of the U.S. population may have a genetic enzyme defect that makes it difficult for them to convert folic acid into active 5-MTHF. For these individuals and many others, 5-MTHF supplementation may be a more effective method of folate repletion.

5-MTHF is an essential cofactor in the metabolism of the amino acid metabolite homocysteine. 5-MTHF also must be present in sufficient quantity for normal production of the neurotransmitters serotonin, melatonin, dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. These functions make 5-MTHF critical for both cardiovascular function and mood support.

One Capsule Contains:
Folate (as L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate) 1 mg.

Other Ingredients: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Hypromellose (derived from cellulose) capsule, Leucine, Silicon Dioxide.

*This product uses Gnosis S.p.A.'s L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate (Extrafolate-S®). Extrafolate-S is a registered trademark of Gnosis S.p.A.

Vitamin D 5000, 60 capsules It is essential to maintain healthy vitamin D levels throughout all stages of life, from fetal development to old age. Vitamin D helps protect a number of important functions in the body. The current recommended daily vitamin D intake of 400 IUs is based on the minimum allowance to protect against bone disease. However, an upward revision of the FDA's guideline is now under consideration in light of new research, especially pertaining to immune function. Cutting-edge research suggests serum vitamin D levels should be in the range of 32-80 ng/mL 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D). Although direct sunlight exposure is a good source of vitamin D, many people do not get enough sun due to season change, latitude, or lifestyle. Therefore, vitamin D supplementation can be of great benefit in these cases. Vitamin D deficiency is quite common, particularly among the elderly. For example, a study conducted at a hospital in Glasgow, Scotland, found an almost universal vitamin D deficiency among a group of 548 elderly patients. Individuals deficient in vitamin D may need 5,000-10,000 IU of vitamin D daily to replenish tissue stores. With these individuals specifically in mind, Thorne's D-5,000 supplies 5,000 IU of pure vitamin D3 in each vegetarian capsule. Some vitamins, because of their potency, are usually given in very small amounts. Examples of such "micro-dose" vitamins include vitamin D, vitamin K, and vitamin B12. Most dietary supplement manufacturers purchase "micro-dose" vitamins from raw material suppliers as premixed dilutions, meaning the vitamins (in powder form) are mixed with other powdered substances that in turn make it easier for the manufacturer to handle and mix a larger quantity of raw material. Unfortunately, the powdered substances used in these premixed dilutions frequently contain potentially detrimental ingredients such as lactose and also the preservatives BHT, BHA, sodium benzoate, and sorbic acid. At Thorne Research, our promise is to give you the purest supplements humanly possible. Therefore, we do not purchase premixed dilutions of any "micro-dose" vitamins. Instead, we purchase pure, undiluted vitamins and create our own dilutions when it is necessary to do so, using pure, hypoallergenic powders, such as magnesium citrate or plant cellulose. The resultant premixture is then added to the dietary supplement being made, ensuring the proper amount of each pure nutrient is contained in each capsule. One Capsule Contains: Vitamin D (as Vitamin D3) 5,000 IU Other Ingredients: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Hypromellose (derived from cellulose) capsule, Leucine, Silicon Dioxide, Vitamin E (mixed tocopherols).
