Leaky Gut highlighted in “First for Women” Magazine

First for Women Magazine highlighted Leaky Gut—and one of my patients, Aurea, last month, describing the amazing turn-around in Aurea’s health by addressing the leakiness in her intestinal lining. Click here to read the article in First for Women Magazine.

How does one identify leaky gut?

There is a specific test, called a lactulose test, which demonstrates leaky gut when a sugar that is not usually allowed across the intestinal lining makes it into the urine.

I find, however, that we can get a very good sense of the degree of leaky gut by looking for immune responses to foods. By testing for IgG and IgA antibodies, which is a finger poke blood test, we can see what is triggering your immune system and how many reactions you are having. The more your immune system is reacting to foods that you eat, the greater the severity of leaky gut.

Stop the leak to optimize your health!

It is possible to heal leaky gut using nutrients and herbs*, starting with an amino acid (from protein) called L-glutamine. Glutamine is the most important nutrient for the health of the cells lining the intestines and research has shown that glutamine supports the health of those cells, as well as the space between the cells. (That’s why it is an important ingredient in The Stress Remedy Shake)

Herbs that are anti-inflammatory, such as curcumin, aloe vera and slippery elm have also been shown to assist with the healing of leaky gut. Digestive enzymes, which help to ensure that food is digested well, can also avert leaky gut by making sure food is digested before it leaks and causes a reaction.

Meanwhile, probiotics add healthy bacteria to your digestive tract, shifting the balance of bacteria and your metabolism from storage-mode to healthy weight mode. See more about these products by clicking here.

Eliminating the foods that are triggering the inflammation and leakiness, namely gluten, but also others, can speed recovery from leaky gut, I find in my practice, including in Aurea’s case.

As described in the First for Women article, Aurea gradually felt better, crossing off such symptoms as diarrhea, bloating, fatigue, achiness, anxiety, headaches and more.

In fact, I find that healing leaky gut is one of the most important steps a person can take toward recovering their wellness.

Wellness to you!

*Please keep in mind that any and all supplements—nutrients, herbs, enzymes, or other—should be used with caution. My recommendation is that you seek the care of a naturopathic doctor (with a doctorate degree from a federally-accredited program) and that you have a primary care physician or practitioner whom you can contact to help you with individual dosing and protocols. If you ever experience negative symptoms after taking a product, stop taking it immediately and contact your doctor right away.
